Pappu lives away from his hometown, so whenever he comes home he needs at least one week to do a kind of get together with all his school friends.Talking about school days, pranks played together, fights fought together, chasing girls or guys (for girls), competition in almost everything done. College life has changed all but some. Some have changed for good and some otherwise. Pappu himself has changed a lot. ‘ More cool’ may be the appropriate word, don’t know. Truly cool or pretending to be cool, Pappu is confused. But confusion is good, he thinks.
Pappu meets his old pals. Guys have changed in obvious manners and girls, not sure. Girls have become matured, both physically and mentally (
). He sees a friend of his ( a she) and he keeps looking at her. He could have never imagined her to be attractive back in school. But now, she is like one of the most beautiful girls he’s seen. Pappu tends to exaggerate beauty when he sees one, but this time he’s not to be mistaken. He visits the girl’s house, why not, they were good friends back in school. The girl shares many of his views and they have a healthy and at times, naughty conversation. Pappu is delighted for now he can state with conviction that the girl talks as beautiful as she is. Two hours go by before anyone of them notices. And Pappu can say that she is indeed a good friend.
Pappu meets another of his ’she-friend’. They get along very well. Why? Because the girl is already committed, NO. It’s because they argue a lot, and Pappu kind of likes the discussions, teasing, pulling legs. They sit together for an hour and Pappu does know that an hour has passed. Pappu has a theory ( which in fact is from some stupid movie). One can’t be ‘best friends or very good friends’ with a girl. Though exceptions are always there. Pappu himself has some exceptionally ‘good’ relations with some girls but still. When he knows the other girl is committed, he’s more relaxed and comfy. Being more than good friends with a girl ( who’s single) leads to complications with time, he thinks.
Then one day Pappu meets someone who was his first serious crush. The girl looks more attractive as must be understood by now. They are meeting after 7 seven years. Though they do talk on phone or orkut sometimes. But ‘Sarcasm’ on each other is what dominates their conversations which usually end up on bad notes. But this time, Pappu is determined not to say anything stupid or outrageous and so goes the first sentence of their conversation, “Lets put aside the past and sarcasm and lets just talk like normal people do.” The girl complied, somewhat non-plussed.
And there they are, sitting, looking at each other, so close. Very soon, Pappu offers his hand to the girl and the girl holds it. Holding hands in a world where kisses, hugs or any physical interaction or intercourses have become so cliche’ sounds naive. But Pappu can feel the innocence of a 13 year something who had held those hands 7 years ago. They are close enough to breath the same air, but still far away for words to form any bridge between them. Caressing each other’s faces, they sit there. But as always time plays the villain and they leave each other’s company. So much was said in the wordless expressions and looks that were exchanged between them. Such are the moments to live for, Pappu thinks.
