GROWING UP !!

The day has finally arrived. It’s been eluding me for quite a long time. Promise has always been there. And finally time’s paid its due. I’ve turned one and twenty for the very first time.

I’ve been asking so many people, ‘did it feel any different when you turned twenty-one’. And the answer has more or less been the same. ‘NO’. ‘Nothing changes save some legal facts if you care a shit about them’.

I’ve called my mom like ten times in last four and twenty hours telling her, ‘you remember it was in 9^th grade when you told me I was still young to think about such a thing (some censored stuff), then again it was in 11^th grade, I was still a kid, then I came to college, I turned eighteen, but you didn’t change your stance a bit. Now that I’m twenty and one, show some mercy and tell me that I’ve grown up’. ‘I’ll think about it’, was her reply.

The day’s arrived. I’m smiling for no particular reason. It becomes difficult to suppress this smile every time I’ve to confront some one. Does it look too embarrassing to be so much excited and happy on your own b’day? But who cares, for me, I’m a jumping jack today (like any other day), excited over something special. It’s my birthday!

Enough time’s passed since I last called my mom. So I call her again. ‘So what did you think’, asked I with shameless eagerness. ‘You know, I’d come to believe that you must have grown up as you are as a matter of fact twenty and one, but your insistence spoils all that. SO TRUST ME WHEN I SAY YOU’R STILL A KID’, and she started to laugh.

So I thought enough on the ‘growing up’ and ‘twenty and one’ crap. I’m just super excited to be here to witness and enjoy as we do …… all the friends…….and some special people calling you…..texting you…..sending you those ‘sweet’, ‘love you’ emails.

So I just want to thank all my family, friends, not-so-good-friends, bête noire, angels and demons (who’ve been an integral part of my fantasy world since childhood) for being there for me and looking forward for the same. Cheers to all !!
